
Lemon Sauce
Ingredients
1/2 cup (125 mL) butter, softened
1/2 cup (125 mL) granulated sugar
1/2 tablespoon (7 mL) brandy (optional)
1 egg
1 teaspoon (5 mL) grated lemon rind
1/2 cup (125 mL) boiling water
Juice of 1 lemon
1/2 teaspoon (2 mL) grated nutmeg
1/8 teaspoon (.5 mL) ground cloves
Directions
Cream butter and sugar together; blend in brandy. Beat in egg and lemon rind. Transfer mixture to top of a double boiler. Gradually add boiling water to mixture, stirring constantly. Heat for 7 to 8 minutes. Stir in lemon juice and spices. Serve hot. Makes 2 cups (500 mL)
