Glo McNeill, who is from Lunenburg, NS, was a contestant on Recipes to Riches, a Canadian television cooking show first aired on Food Network and then on CBC and put on by President’s Choice. Contestants entered a recipe of their own in one of seven categories. If it won in the chosen category, the contestant received $25,000 and went on to compete against the other six winners; the overall winner from that showdown received $250,000 and their recipe would be developed for the President’s Choice line of prepared foods. Glo took her Luscious Lemon Pudding all the way to the winner’s circle. And because a really great cook has more than one recipe in her apron pocket, Glo has written a cookbook to share all of her other delicious offerings as well.

Cooking With Glo serves up soups and salads, a few main course items, breakfast options, breads and a whole lot of fabulous baked goods. Growing up in England, Glo has many memories of her mother’s kitchen and the foods she would make there, such as Shortbreads, Treacle Tarts and Lancashire Custard Tarts. Reading through the cookbook you can’t help but feel that popping in to visit with Glo would be like stepping into your grandmother’s warm kitchen, filled with wonderful aromas and delicious food. Maybe the next best thing to actually being there is owning this cookbook, allowing you to create some of that same ambience in your own home. MacIntyre Purcell Publishing; $18.95.
