The article “Sold” (September/October) brought back happy memories of the many auctions we attended—we took a lunch, and always went home with (to us) a treasure; a clock, a book, a piece of brass or glass.

I’ve never forgotten the racing heart when the auctioneer said SOLD and the item was mine, bargain or not. Your magazine is a wonderful sit-down exploration of the Maritimes.

I wish to congratulate Philip Lee and Karen Ruet for ably capturing the spirit of the Thursday night auction in Maugerville, NB. It’s always exciting and entertaining to watch the audience find a “common” price/value for an item. It’s great when you have the high bid and frustrating when your limit is surpassed, but there is never a dull moment once Mark Sloat starts the auction.
