In July, my wife, some friends and I were exploring the coastal road near Bouctouche when we spotted a small antique shop. The others went inside but I, not being overly interested in antiques, remained in the car to read my Saltscapes magazine.
Suddenly I realized that a picture in the magazine was the scene I saw
as I looked through my windshield: It was the home of the Woodchuck
(“Tour of a Lifetime,” July/August). At that point, I joined the others.
He and his wife, the Woodchip, have a fair selection of interesting
antiques and a large selection of hand carved wood scenes. He is a very
talented wood carver and has a wild imagination. The presentation he
puts on is absolutely hilarious.
It is definitely a “must see” in the area. It is on the coastal road,
just east of the village of Bouctouche, NB. Allow at least
three-quarters of an hour to see it, and take your camera.
