Newfoundland Chocolate Company
Meet the Chocolatiers: Newfoundland Chocolate Company, St. John’s, NL
In 2008, Christina Dove and her husband Brent Smith started making chocolate in their home, wanting to make their own recipes, and using fresh local ingredients likeblueberries, partridgeberries, bakeapples, sea salt from Trinity Bay, and locally roasted coffee. Two years later, they opened their chocolate shop on Duckworth Street in downtown St. John’s, creating the ultimate chocolate experience chocolate drips and fountains and even a train carrying chocolate bars over the heads of customers. In October of 2014, the couple opened a second shop in the prestigious Avalon Mall in St. John’s, and they have a thriving online shop as well as being popular in many trade shows throughout the country. Their ‘Love Bar,’ designed for Valentine’s Day and featuring Newfoundland expressions on the wrapper, went viral on social media this past winter.
Christina Dove says, “We started our family company with strong values of using pure ingredients with no additives or preservatives. We hand decorate our chocolates with natural colours from fruits, berries and flowers, and everything is packaged by hand. Our packaging reflects our pride of our beautiful home of Newfoundland, our traditions, our history and our culture.”
