[NEW 2017] - Hunter Street Silver
Jennifer Hunter started making jewellery more than 20 years ago while she was doing her second music degree. Gradually, her hobby unfolded into a business, and a way of life. Hunter Street Silver features a complete line of jewellery—rings, brooches, earrings, bracelets, barrettes and more—as well as fascinating home décor items such as vases, wind-chimes and wall hooks, all made out of recycled and repurposed silver-plate flatware, tea services, and other items. Most of us use stainless steel cutlery these days, and the old labour-intensive silver-plate gets cast aside. Jennifer is all about reduce, reuse and recycle, and her beautiful pieces prove that with her thriving business.
Jennifer generally sources her silver through auctions and her contacts with pickers and dealers around the region, but says more and more downsizing customers will sell her either their entire collection, or the remainder after she makes keepsakes for their family members. “After all these years my ‘stash’ is quite large, which was highlighted by our recent move to Sackville, NB from Halifax, NS—cutlery is heavy!” she says.
Unpacked and working in her new home in Sackville, Jennifer is enjoying working in her new, light-filled studio with its garden views. Perfect for preparing for Saltscapes Expo and other shows. Last year, she introduced two new bracelet designs, the Boho Leather Wrap and the Copper Cuff, which are perfect ways to use the spoon bowls left over from making rings. We can’t wait to see what new delights she has for us this year.
