I thoroughly enjoyed your article on home wine making (“No Vineyard? No problem,” September/October). Years ago, I made wine in my basement and it was in great demand—mainly by auto body shops to clean the rust off their tools. As such, I gave up until one day I was doing some work in Wolfville, NS, and, as I was looking at a three-hour drive to get home at 4:30 on a Friday, I decided my reward would be a six-pack for the weekend.

The article “Sold” (September/October) brought back happy memories of the many auctions we attended—we took a lunch, and always went home with (to us) a treasure; a clock, a book, a piece of brass or glass.

I was pleased with the article “Domesticating our Codfish” (January/February)—it’s timely and true. Only correct and respectful use of our marine wildlife can possibly replenish any desired fish species. I am acquainted with a salmon-raising project locally that was supposed to do great things but was terminated after considerable wastage of money. |
